At last night's meeting, the general response to this book was positive. Some people were less willing to suspend their disbelief than others - but everyone enjoyed the "small stories"...

For more on what we discussed, see the youtube video. Much more impressive on screen than on the iphone:

Hello! I am an art friend of Kelly S. I'm a book lover as well and have decided to read along with your group each month. Kelly said I should share what I wrote to her about this book "Bel Canto" with the group and blog. So here it is:

I thought that the whole story was pretty much told in the first chapter and would have made a good short story. The rest of it was good, not earth-shaking, but good. I thought the opera singer was a bit shallow and was surprised that no one in the story really changed their minds about her during the confinement. I would have thought she would have fallen off of the pedistal they put her on quite quickly. Gen was a good character and I liked the changes he went through - UNTIL the ending! I thought by marrying the Opera Singer he completely reverted
to his old "follow the rules-straight-laced" habits. Sad, because I was pulling for him to "blossom" through the book. :)

So there you go. I could have gone deeper into analysis, which I tend to do after reading, but I will not bore you! Heh Heh! I've just finished "Atmospheric Disturbances" and am looking forward to hearing what people thought about that one.

Best, Tamara

Welcome Tamara! It's cool to have a virtual club member. Thanks for sharing your thoughts on "Bel Canto." Am definitely interested in reading your opinion of "At Dis"
